So great what is done in the US with beads!!! And thank you for your nice comment, too. You know the word Schmetterling! Did you learn German in the past?

Bead Explorer - I lived in Stuttgart for three years and loved every minute of it. If I could have stayed, I would have.

It took me a few viewings of this gorgeous tribute before I put two and two together --- how in the world were you all able to get that wonderful heart outline and the wings on either side of the heart lined up so well??? It is really a work of art and a lovely tribute to a friend. Beautiful work, one and all.

Liz, It is beautiful. I enlarged it so I could see it really well. Really a nice tribute.

Haven't commented in a while and very nice to see.

Beadin' Gram - the outline was done on the Pellon before it was cut into squares. Those lines were completed with hematite seed beads that the guild provided us all with. That was our only direction - the lines must be in that colour.

Several members of the guild met at my home to bead, and we didn't coordinate our colours, but made certain that they didn't clash for about 5 blocks! But looking at the overall design, it wouldn't have mattered.

Appreciate you answering the question how you were able to line up the heart and wing outlines so well. It is really something gorgeous.

Hi again, Liz,
I recommended your site, the beaded quilt photo in particular, to many of my friends. They are all in awe of it -- it is so lovely. One question that keeps being asked, and I hope you can answer, is HOW MUCH DOES IT WEIGH? Hope you can give us an answer. Thanks, BG

Hey Bad Liz! Thanks for stoppin by today. You know, I'm actually going to Germany to visit Nina in the spring!!! Can't wait=:)ALso, I just started a mobile blog -The Adventures of The Lone Beader to document what I see in Europe, but I think it will become a daily thing just for fun.

Also, did you see my post about Detroit/Bob Seger?? =:)

Happy beading!

Thanks, Liz. The bunch will be happy to know the weight of this fantastic quilt.

Saw the Bob Seger post. Growing up in the Motor City, I can't even count how many of his concerts I have seen! Or remember seeing, but that's a different story!

Very jealous of the Germany trip - I might have to make a wish list for you!!

But just thinking about the crepe stand in the Konigstrasse in downtown Stuttgart is making me so jealous. And the restaurant at the top of the hill that we used to go to.

I am getting homesick!!

I'm sooooo glad you explained the process of making this awesome tribute piece. Barb must have been an extraordinary person and very well loved. Goodness! Where is it hung? Have you thought about offering it to Bead & Button or other shows around the country to exhibit? Maybe insurance, shipping, etc. would be prohibitive, but it is so magnificent that it would be a shame if it wasn't seen in person by many beaders. Who masterminded the lines? Kudos to that person! I'm in awe!

Thanks for everyone's kind words!! The guild members did a great job. Closeups of the squares are at www.greatlakesbeadworkersguild.org/quiltpage1.html if you want to check them out closer.

Robin, the guild pres, Jeanette, asked me to drop you a line as your bead embroidery classes helped many of our beaders complete their pieces. Then I looked here, and you had already checked it out!

Thank you for posting this! I just spent the last half hour crying because I had not known that Barb died. My mother died in '00 and she was a member of the Bead Guild and a huge fan of Barb's work. While packing for a move, I ran across a few of my treasured Barb pieces and wondered what she was up to. I am so happy about this quilt! Is it displayed anywhere?
