Bead Journal July - finished

This is my finished square for the month of July - it's the Big Dipper and the North Star in a field of the Milky Way. I was inspired by all the stars that my husband and I see when we go camping in Northern Michigan - away from the lights of Detroit, you can actually see a lot. I used shades of blue and silver size 15 seed beads for this month. The "stars" in the dipper are pearls. The finishing touch will be a 3-bead picot around the sides. I like the flow of the sky, the whorls of the dark sky, so very typical of a July night.

Very nice. I can just see laying back and looking at the stars through the trees.

The way the sky beads colors are blended is brilliant.
What a great subject!

This is a breautiful piece of sky. I grew up in the Detroit area, in Birmingham and Beverly Hills (before it was so ritzy!) and I remember seeing those big expanses of Michigan sky and all the stars! I think you captured it beautifully.

I really like this--I grew up in Alaska where the big dipper is so prominent in the night sky that it is the image on the Alaska State flag!

I'm an old Cleveland girl remembering how few nights we could see the stars like this. But here in New Mexico, the stars are brilliantly shining most of the time!

Love your interpretation of that Michigan night sky!

You realize of course, that this is almost the Alaskan State flag? I'm sure you do! It nice. Not what I expected.

Very good Liz. I know that dipper, sometimes it seems so close you can almost touch it. You used size 15 seedbeads? You have much more patience than I do.

I really got the feeling I was looking at a midnight sky. Wonderful how your eye travels around with the swirls.

Thanks all - and yup, Rosanne, I used 15s. I am certifiably insane.

Wow! We can all relate to this beautiful night sky... me too. I live on an island, far from larger civilizations... the big dipper from our bedroom window pours magical star dust into my dreams. Your piece does too. Thanks!

Living in rural Arizona, the sky can be so clear sometimes and you can see the cloudy stuff around the milky way (don't count me in for technical naming of stuff). I can see it in your page. Great work!
